What is Xeomin©?
Both Botox© (onabotulinum toxin A) and Xeomin© (incobotulinum toxin A) are injectable cosmetic treatments that temporarily relax overactive facial muscles that cause wrinkles. Repeat treatments can help to prevent the formation of new wrinkles as well as soften pre-existing wrinkles and creases in the face.
What is the difference between Xeomin© and Botox©?
Xeomin© and Botox© work the same way to relax muscles and smooth wrinkles. They share the identical active ingredient – botulinum toxin A. The difference is that Botox© has an accompanying protein, while Xeomin does not – essentially, it is a purer form of the molecule
What areas can be treated with Xeomin©?
Xeomin© injections are most often used in the upper third of the face but can also be used in other areas including but not limited to:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines (11’s between the brows)
- Lateral eyebrows (for a “medical” eyebrow lift)
- Crow’s feet
- Bunny lines (crinkling along the sides of the nose)
- Lip border (for subtle lip enhancement without the use of fillers)
- Downturned corners of the mouth
- Vertical lip lines
How long does Xeomin© last?
The average duration of Xeomin© treatment is 3-4 months, although individual results may vary.
Will treatment with Xeomin© leave me expressionless or “frozen?”
Our goal with Xeomin© is to soften lines and wrinkles on your face by relaxing the muscles of facial expression. You will still be able to smile and scowl, and you should never look expressionless or “frozen.”
Are There Any Side Effects of Xeomin©?
Xeomin© is injected with tiny (insulin) needles. This along with ice packs and a professional strength numbing cream which can be applied in advance to the skin, make the procedure almost painless. Xeomin© has an excellent safety record in the hands of experienced, well-trained physicians (millions of patients have been treated since FDA approval in 2002). Most commonly, temporary mild swelling, pain, and bruising can occur at the site of injection. Consider reviewing our treatment tips for precautions to avoid/minimize bruising prior to your treatment. Uncommon but more serious side effects have been reported and include tiredness, double or blurred vision, headache, or eyelid droop.
What should I expect after treatment with Xeomin©?
You may see some effect as early as 2 days following injection and it can take as long as 7days to see the full effect.
