What is Restylane Silk©?
Restylane Silk© is the latest hyaluronic acid gel particle-based filler released by the makers of the Restylane© line of products. Hyaluronic acid is an important biological component of the dermal layer of skin, which contributes to skin firmness, structure, and elasticity. Over time, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin decreases, one of the consequences of which is the appearance of more fine lines and wrinkles. A smooth, silky, smaller-particle hyaluronic acid gel, Restylane Silk© is often used for treating fine lines around the mouth and lips and for volume correction of the lips.
How does Resylane Silk© differ from Restylane Silk©?
The particle size of Restylane Silk©is smaller as compared to other products in the Restylane© family, which results in a thinner, silkier gel particle-based filler that is mostly injected superficially to treat fine lines and wrinkles.
What areas can be treated with Voluma©?
Although it is FDA approved for use only in the perioral lines (around the mouth) and lip augmentation, it can also be used off-label to correct other fine lines and wrinkles such as forehead lines and crow’s feet as well as fill in tear troughs.
How long does Restylane Silk© last?
Restylane Silk© is gradually broken down in the skin over an average of 6-12 months, although individual results may vary. A potential benefit of using hyaluronic acid-based fillers is the availability of hyaluronidase (an anecdote, essentially), which can be injected into the skin and quickly breaks down the product.
Are There Any Side Effects of Restylane Silk©?
Restylane Silk© is formulated with lidocaine to make the injection experience more comfortable. Additionally, ice packs and prescription-strength numbing cream significantly decrease discomfort. Hyaluronic acid fillers have an excellent safety record in the hands of experienced, well-trained physicians. Most commonly, temporary mild swelling and bruising can occur.
